Iranian Foreign Ministry summons ambassadors of Britain, France, Germany

TEHRAN, Mar. 13 (YPA) – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the ambassadors of Britain, France, and Germany to the ministry’s headquarters following a closed-door meeting with the United States regarding Iran’s nuclear program within the UN Security Council.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement on Thursday describing the meeting as a provocative move, devoid of any technical or legal justification, and considered it an extension of the escalating, unilateral US policies.

The statement added that the ambassadors of the three European countries were summoned to express Iran’s strong protest against what it described as the irresponsible and tension-inducing stance of these countries. It emphasized that holding such a closed-door meeting regarding Iran’s nuclear program lacks any legal or technical basis.

The ministry’ statement also clarified that Iran informed the ambassadors that this European position constitutes support for the United States, which unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement adopted by the UN Security Council in 2018, which could negatively impact cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Media reports had previously indicated that the United States and the European signatories to the nuclear agreement (Britain, France, and Germany) discussed Iran’s nuclear program in a closed-door meeting of the Security Council on Wednesday.
