Saudi-aligned Islah leaders sell properties, move funds out of Marib

MARIB, Sept. 15 (YPA) – A wave of active sales is reportedly underway involving land, buildings and farms owned by Saudi-aligned Islah Party leaders in Marib city and surrounding areas, extending to the Marib Dam intersection and the Al-Rumaila and Al-Husoon areas on the city’s outskirts.

Local source familiar with the matter said the properties and farms were being offered at very low prices, noting that one large farm was sold for 300,000 Saudi riyals, despite its actual value being estimated at around 2 million riyals.

The source added that the Al-Ahmar Group for Gas had sold about 85 gas transport trailers for $15,000 each, although their actual value was estimated at around $50,000 per trailer.

Islah leaders had also, in recent days, reportedly moved large amounts of foreign currency, including US dollars and Saudi riyals, from Marib city by truck to Seiyun, the administrative center of the Wadi Hadramawt districts and the second stronghold of the Muslim Brotherhood.

The moves come amid advances by Sanaa forces on all military fronts surrounding Marib city, the stronghold of Islah leaders, as well as efforts to take control of the Wadi District, following the failure of tribal mediation efforts to persuade Islah leaders to hand over the city peacefully.
