Marouf: Gaza needs 60,000 mobile homes, of which only 12 have entered
GAZA, Feb. 22 (YPA) – Salama Maarouf, head of the government media office in Gaza Strip, said on Friday that the Strip is in dire need of no less than 60,000 mobile homes and 200,000 tents to provide temporary shelter for hundreds of thousands of families who lost their homes.
Marouf explained in a press statement on Friday morning that a limited number of mobile homes (12 caravans) entered the Gaza Strip today, noting that they are designated for use by international organizations and not for shelter.
He pointed out that the actual shelter needs are still far from being covered, as less than half of the required number of tents have arrived, in addition to the complete absence of mobile homes, which makes what is available a drop in the ocean of the needs of the people of the Strip.
Maarouf accused the Israeli occupation of procrastination and delaying in implementing its humanitarian obligations, ignoring the catastrophic crisis caused by the war. He stressed the need for the international community and mediators to intervene to pressure the occupation to ensure the entry of urgent needs for shelter, relief and health care.
He also called for the acceleration of holding an international conference to rebuild the Gaza Strip and asked the upcoming Arab summit in Saudi Arabia to take a decision to allow the opening of the Rafah crossing around the clock to allow the entry of necessary aid.
Marouf added that a rapid response to the distress call is necessary after Gaza was classified as a humanitarian, living, and service-stricken area.
