WORLD, Aug. 01 (YPA) – The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Saturday that a commercial tanker was struck by an unknown projectile off the coast of Oman, damaging its engine room and causing the vessel to lose control.
In a press statement, UKMTO said it received a report of the incident 11 nautical miles northeast of Lima, Oman. A security officer onboard confirmed the tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile.
The statement added that the strike caused damage to the engine room, leaving the vessel not under command. No casualties among the crew, pollution, or environmental damage were reported.
UKMTO advised ships operating in the area to proceed with caution and report any suspicious activity.
