BERN, Feb. 06 (YPA) – The Swiss authorities have begun to open an investigation against an Israeli reserve soldier stationed on Swiss soil on charges of war crimes.
The pro-Palestinian The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) said in a statement on Wednesday that it had formally filed a criminal complaint with Swiss authorities, leading to an investigation into war crimes against an Israeli suspect currently in Switzerland.
“The complaint provides extensive evidence indicating the involvement of this person in war crimes and crimes against humanity, including attacks on civilians, destruction of homes and hospitals, forced displacement, and other serious violations of international law committed in the Gaza Strip,” the statement added.
It continued: “At this stage, we will not disclose further details to protect the integrity of the legal process.”
The HRF’s statement welcomed “Switzerland’s commitment to upholding international law and ensuring that war criminals do not find safe haven on its territory.”
“There will be no refuge for those who commit war crimes, regardless of rank or nationality,” it warned.
“While political and military leaders bear responsibility for planning and ordering these crimes, the individual soldiers and officers who carried them out must also face the full force of international law,” the statement added.
