SHABWA, Jan. 05 (YPA) – The presidency of the Saudi-backed “Shabwa Council” announced on Sunday the establishment of a new committee specializing in security and military affairs, designed based on similar models previously established by Saudi Arabia and the UAE in a number of Yemeni southern provinces.
The council explained that the main objective of this committee, which was announced at the beginning of this January, is to confront the problems and issues that negatively affect Shabwa members working in the security and military services.
The decision to form the committee came after consensus within the so-called “Body of the Wise” affiliated with the council, where Nasser Abdu Rabbuh Al-Tahiri was appointed as chairman of the committee and Rois Abdullah Mujawar as a member, in addition to five other members, including figures with reformist affiliations.
The council stressed the need to formulate effective programs that contribute to addressing the challenges facing the people of Shabwa in the security and military fields, emphasizing the need to stop the manifestations of exclusion and marginalization that they have suffered from over the past years due to the policies of some factions loyal to the UAE.
This move comes amid escalating calls to restore the reputation of the people of Shabwa province and ensure their fair participation in the security and military sectors.
This step is considered a strategic move through which Saudi Arabia seeks to achieve a kind of balance between the different factions, including those funded and supported by the UAE.
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia had handed over camps affiliated with the Islah Party in Shabwa to the factions loyal to the UAE following the dismissal of the governor affiliated with the party, Mohammed Saleh bin Adio, in late December 2021.
