ADEN, Nov. 26 (YPA) – The Committee for Monitoring Encroachments and Encroachment on Aden University Lands revealed that influential individuals had seized a large area estimated at 152 acres, equivalent to more than 615 thousand square meters, on the university campus.
The committee confirmed in its meeting yesterday that establishing a private investment project within the university campus and with such a huge area will deprive the university and the people of Aden from establishing the university teaching hospital that is planned to be built at a financial cost of one hundred million dollars with a capacity of 500 beds, financed by the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development.
It indicated that the problem related to the land will make the fund cancel this huge project for which 28 foreign, Arab, and local companies have applied to enter the tender.
A report issued by the committee stated that the abandonment of a university campus means a loss of over $40 million that the state spent to build campus infrastructure, prepare studies for future projects, and fund the construction of the campus wall and infrastructure.
The committee denounced the establishment of a private commercial investment project within the university campus with an area estimated at 152 acres, which clearly confirms the disappearance of the university campus, which is located within a commercial project, housing and residents.
The committee called on all civil society organizations, community committees in all directorates of Aden province, neighboring provinces, and the media to pay attention to the issue and stand against all attempts to undermine the campus land with the aim of establishing private commercial projects at the expense of the public interest.
