Pro-coalition military commanders destroy commercial electricity company in Taiz following assassination of its owner
TAIZ, Sept. 20 (YPA) – A commercial electricity company in Taiz city has been subjected to destruction and liquidation by military leaders affiliated with the Islah party, which is part of the coalition.
According to informed sources in the city, elements from the 5th Presidential Protection Brigade, led by Islah-affiliated commander Adnan Raziq, disconnected the generators of the “Yemen Co” electricity company from the public grid serving subscribers in the Bir Basha area.
The sources clarified that this seizure aimed to allocate the area where this company operates to another company that has recently emerged, linked to military leaders from Islah.
“Yemen Co” has been operating under a rental contract with the General Electricity Corporation in Taiz for the Bir Basha area and its surroundings since August 2018, and the contract is still valid.
The company continues to pay the monthly amounts due to the corporation as stipulated in the contract.
The company’s owner, businessman Mahmoud Alzawqari, was assassinated in Taiz in September 2020 by the entourage of Bakar Sadiq Sarhan, the son of the commander of the 22nd Mika Brigade.
Alzawqari’s assassination came after enduring months of threats and an earlier assassination attempt, following his refusal to yield to the extortion demands of Islah military leaders, who sought a specific percentage of his profits.
