Protest vigil calls on “Shabwa Defense” to hand over murders of killing Dr. Al-Khulaifi

SHABWA, Aug. 12 (YPA) – Members of the health sector in Shabwa province organized on Monday a protest demanding the arrest of the killers of Dr. Salem Abdullah Mohsen Al-Khulaifi in the center of the city of Ataq early last July.

In front of the Appeals Prosecution building, the protesters raised pictures of Dr. Al-Khulaifi, who was killed at a checkpoint belonging to the UAE-backed “Shabwa Defense Forces,” during which they demanded that the accused be handed over and brought to trial.

The protesters called on the local authorities to direct the leadership of the “Second Shabwa Defense Brigade” to quickly hand over the killers from its recruits to be trailed and punished.

Doctor Al-Khulaifi was killed by gunfire from the “Shabwa Defense” gunmen at the eastern entrance to the city of Ataq while he was returning on his motorcycle from his work at the Shabwa General Hospital towards his home.

Since the incident, the “Shabwa Defense” forces command has been procrastinating the sheikhs of the Al-Khulaifi tribe in handing over the accused and putting them on trial, amid widespread public anger.
