SHABWA, Aug. 07 (YPA) – A local official survived an assassination attempt, on Wednesday, in an armed ambush in Shabwa governorate, which is under the control of UAE-funded factions.
Local sources reported that tribal gunmen opened heavy fire on Abu Bakr bin Farid Al-Awlaki as he was passing through Al-Masahaa area, as a result of which two of his companions were seriously injured, Abd Rabbuh Al-Awlaki and Sarwah Al-Awlaki.
The sources explained that the gunmen surprised Bin Farid with a barrage of bullets while he was heading to the city of Ataq, the center of the governorate, as a result of which confrontations broke out between his companions and the gunmen.
The sources attributed the attack to a tribal vendetta between Al-Awlaki and Al Baras, while tribal mediation intervened to stop the confrontations and calm the situation between two sides.
Shabwa districts are witnessing security chaos amid incitement of tribal conflicts between the people of the governorate by leaders of factions loyal to the UAE in order to serve their control over oil fields in the governorate.
