SANAA, Aug. 25 (YPA) -The Humanitarian Eye Center for Rights and Development condemned the Israeli aggression that targeted the Hezyaz power station and the Oil Company facility in the capital Sanaa, describing the attacks as war crimes and part of a broader policy of collective punishment against Yemen.
In a statement the center said that strikes on vital civilian infrastructure—particularly electricity and fuel stations—constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, specifically Article 52 of Additional Protocol I to the Geneva Conventions, which prohibits attacks on civilian objects. It added that such actions also breach the United Nations Charter, which criminalizes assaults on state sovereignty and civilian populations.
The center stressed that the attacks, which caused civilian casualties and destroyed facilities unrelated to any military objectives, amount to war crimes under the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
It further noted that the aggression comes in retaliation for Yemen’s principled and humanitarian stance in supporting the Palestinian people in Gaza, who themselves face genocide and starvation at the hands of the Israeli occupation.
The Humanitarian Eye Center urged the United Nations and the Human Rights Council to open an urgent international investigation into the attack and other violations against Yemen.
It called on the international community, along with human rights and humanitarian organizations, to assume their legal and moral responsibilities in stopping such grave abuses and in prosecuting the perpetrators, stressing that war crimes do not lapse with time.
The statement also demanded protection for civilians and service facilities, and safeguards to prevent further attacks that threaten the lives of millions of Yemenis.
