QUDS, Aug. 25 (YPA) – In a provocative step, a group of Israeli extremists blew the shofar (ram’s horn) inside the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque on Monday morning, an act Palestinian officials condemned as a grave violation of the sanctity of the Islamic holy site.
The incident took place amid a large-scale incursion by hundreds of Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa compound, escorted by heavily armed Israeli occupation forces.
Blowing the shofar carries symbolic meaning in extremist religious beliefs, seen as marking the beginning of the Hebrew New Year and, in their view, bringing them closer to the arrival of the “Messiah” and the eventual construction of the claimed Third Temple on the grounds of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
