Turkish opposition warns against military agreement with Saudi Arabia, accusing it of serving America and Israel

ANKARA, Nov. 05 (YPA) – Members of the Turkish parliament from opposition parties condemned the government’s move towards concluding military and security agreements with Saudi Arabia, warning against sending Turkish soldiers into new military adventures to serve American and Israeli interests in exchange for Saudi money.

MP Namik Tan of the New Path Party said that the opposition rejects what he called the “Mecca Agreement,” which bargains with the lives of Turkish soldiers for Saudi riyals, stressing that the Mecca alliance serves only American and Israeli interests.

Tan criticized the regime’s attempts to make the people relive the lamentations of Yemen after a hundred years in order to secure urgent funding to save it as the elections approach, emphasizing that the army’s primary mission is to protect the homeland, not to defend Saudi Arabia.

For his part, MP Tahsin Beyjan said that Saudi Arabia has been cooperating with America and Israel in its aggression against Yemen since 2015, questioning the point of signing a defense agreement with a country living in a state of war, as if Ankara were telling it, “Stop it, and I will fight for you.” He pointed out that the Yemenis are defending themselves and launching missiles in support of Gaza.

MP Metin Ergun questioned the reasons for involving Turkey in a military commitment with unknown limits and threats, while MP Lütfi Türkkan emphasized the rejection of linking the movements and deployment locations of Turkish soldiers to the external crises of other countries.

MP Hasan Karal stressed the need for a complete separation between the legitimate right to self-defense and blatant interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
