Unique Yemeni antique sold at auction in London
SANAA, July 18 (YPA) – The Yemeni antiquities expert, Abdullah Mohsen, has revealed that a piece of Yemeni antiquities was sold at an international auction in London in 2020.
Mohsen said in a post on his Facebook page that the piece is an alabaster head of a man that was sold at the famous Sotheby’s auction in London on December 17, 2020.
Describing the masterpiece, Mohsen added, “The alabaster head of a man from the ruins of Yemen, dating back to about the second or first century BC, with a long, slender neck, a short beard, grooved eyebrows, concentric semicircular ears, large eyes, and a circular decoration on the chin that was previously inlaid.”
It is worth noting that many of Yemen’s historical antiquities are sold at international auctions and on the Internet, especially in America and European countries, after being looted and due to random excavations.
