Metro: British universities share pro-Palestinian students data with Police

WORLD, July 03 (YPA) – British universities have been accused of collaborating with the police to monitor and review the activities of students participating in pro-Palestinian protests, according to an investigation published by the “Liberty” organization in collaboration with the London newspaper “Metro.”

The investigation revealed that some universities provided student data to the police without explicit requests from law enforcement.

In one notable example, a university expressed concern about the number of international students participating in the institution, while information was exchanged about a student at the University of York due to her expression of support for Palestine, indirectly leading to police questioning.

One prominent incident involved police visiting a student’s home to refer her to the counter-terrorism program “Prevent” after she posted a Palestinian symbol on the “X” platform during a university gathering, despite the symbol’s historical association with the Palestinian movement.

These developments have raised concerns about freedom of expression in universities.

Human rights organizations have criticized these actions as violations of students’ rights, while some universities have stressed the importance of protecting freedom of expression and students’ rights without discrimination.
