Attack hits UK defense ministry

LONDON, May 07 (YPA) – The British government announced on Tuesday that the payroll system for members of the Armed Forces at the Ministry of Defense was subjected to a cyber attack.

The ministry said, in a statement, that the attack related to a data breach of the names and banking details of active-duty members of the armed forces and some veterans, without specifying the extent of its seriousness.

British Labor Minister Melvyn John Stride indicated that the ministry acted very quickly to close the database that was targeted, noting that the affected employees will be notified as a precautionary measure and provided with specialized advice, to protect their personal data.

In turn, British Defense Minister Grant Shapps informed members of Parliament about the attack that targeted a database containing details related to members of the armed forces, while media reports stated that a third-party payroll system had been hacked, which exposed bank details related to members of the armed forces and some veteran soldiers.
