Shura Council condemns burning of Quran copies by extremists in Sweden
SANAA, June 30 (YPA) – The Shura Council on Friday strongly condemned the Swedish authorities for allowing extremists to burn the Holy Quran copies for the second time in front of a mosque in Stockholm, under the protection of the Swedish police.
In a statement today, the council considered the repetition of these racist practices, especially on the first day of Eid while millions of Muslims perform the rituals of Hajj, a racist act that transgresses all legal, human, and moral boundaries and is never connected to freedom of expression.
The statement emphasized that these criminal acts demonstrate hatred and disregard for Muslims’ feelings and sanctities, and that it is an organized war against Islam and Muslims, urging the Islamic nation to move at all levels to stop these practices and continuous offenses against Islamic sanctities and symbols.
In its statement, the Shura Council called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and related associations and institutions to move quickly and urgently in international forums to put an end to such racist practices, criminalize them, and condemn them.
The statement called on the Association of Senates, Shura Councils, and Similar Councils in Africa and the Arab World to put pressure on their governments to take practical measures to boycott Sweden diplomatically and economically and other countries that deliberately repeatedly insult Islam and Islamic sanctities.
The Shura Council urged the Arab and Islamic peoples to go out to the fields and squares to express their anger at such racist practices and to boycott Swedish products.
