SANAA, April 26 (YPA) – The Shura Council in the capital, Sanaa, appealed to brotherly and friendly countries and humanitarian organizations on Wednesday to evacuate students and members of the Yemeni community from Sudan to safe places far from conflict areas.
In a statement it issued today, the Council called on the Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World to provide assistance to Yemeni students in Khartoum and look at their suffering from humanitarian aspects, like other nationalities that are evacuated.
The statement denounced the shameful and disgraceful position of the pro-Saudi-led coalition “government” and its embassy in Khartoum towards the suffering of Yemeni students and their families who are stuck due to the war and the lack of serious action to evacuate them.
The Shura Council held the coalition and its affiliated government responsible for the risks that Yemeni students may be exposed to as a result of not carrying out their legal, humanitarian and moral responsibilities and not taking action to secure their lives and return them safely to Yemen.
The Council affirmed that the Sanaa government is ready to carry out the evacuation of the Yemeni community and students in Sudan, but the conditions of the blockade and the closure of Sanaa International Airport by the coalition represented a major obstacle to its implementation of such urgent humanitarian mission.
The statement appreciated the initiative of the Shabwa-Socotra Students Forum in Sudan and their self-efforts, which resulted in the transfer of a number of students and their families to the city of Port Sudan, to evacuate them to Saudi Arabia, and then return them to their provinces in Yemen.
