Oman launches initiative to resume negotiations on Iranian nuclear file

MUSCAT, April 26 (YPA) – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, announced that Oman possesses “serious initiatives” contributing to resuming negotiations regarding the Iranian nuclear file.

During his visit to Muscat, Abdollahian described, on Tuesday, the Omani role would contribute to lifting sanctions on Iran as a constructive and fruitful step, according to a statement to the official Oman News Agency.

In April 2021, the negotiations began in Vienna between Iran and China, Russia, Britain, France and Germany, as well as the indirect participation of the United States, but they have failed since August 2022, after Tehran and Washington had exchange accusations of responsibility for differences over a draft agreement.

Iran and the six countries had signed the agreement in 2015 to impose restrictions on the Iranian nuclear program in exchange for lifting economic sanctions on Tehran, but Washington unilaterally withdrew from it in 2018, claiming that it was ineffective, and reimposed the sanctions.

Several the regional and international capitals have accuse Tehran of seeking to produce nuclear weapons, while Iran says its nuclear program is designed for peaceful purposes, including generating electricity.
