Gaza Interior Ministry: Israeli enemy’s assassination of Gaza Governorate Police Chief is dangerous escalation aimed at creating chaos
GAZA, Aug. 13 (YPA) – The Ministry of Interior and National Security in the Gaza Strip confirmed, on Thursday, that the Israeli occupation’s assassination of the Gaza Governorate Police Chief constitutes a dangerous escalation and reflects its insistence on targeting key elements of civilian police work with the aim of creating chaos within Palestinian society.
In a statement, the ministry condemned the new crime of assassinating Colonel Jamal Abu Kamil in an airstrike that targeted his vehicle on Rashid Street in Gaza City, resulting in his martyrdom and the injury of two of his companions.
It explained that this crime comes within the framework of the occupation’s continued violations of the ceasefire agreement, at a time when the parties are striving to consolidate the truce, stressing that it also aims to undermine the efforts of mediators and obstruct the truce efforts.
It emphasized that targeting the police force is a flagrant violation of international law, which criminalizes targeting civilian protection agencies, noting that it is the third crime in recent weeks after the assassination of the North Gaza Police Chief, the Director of the Jabalia Camp Police Station, and six officers and personnel with him.
The ministry also reiterated its demand for the international community and mediating countries to intervene urgently to stop the occupation’s violations and its targeting of the police force, its officers, and personnel.
