11 dead, 8 wounded in collapse of building in Mumbai, India

MUMBAI, Jun. 10 (YPA) – At least 11 people, including eight children, died  on Thursday when an apartment building collapsed in the Indian city of Mumbai.

Reuters quoted local officials as saying that the incident occurred shortly before midnight in a suburb north of Mumbai and that other people were likely trapped under the rubble.

Local television showed pictures of the rescue operations, showing the removal of debris in a guest lane, while the faces of passers-by and relatives of the victims were bewildered.

Building collapses are more common in Mumbai during the monsoon rains, which began with heavy rains on Wednesday in Mumbai.
