Dozens of Somali army vehicles deploy in capital in refusal to extension of president’s mandate

MOGADISHU, April 25 (YPA) – The Somali army forces began on Sunday a deployment in the capital, Mogadishu, in refusal to extend the mandate of President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo for two years, according to local media.

“Al-Asimah” and “Jawhar” news websites reported that, since the morning, Mogadishu has been witnessing movements of army units that withdrew from their military barracks in the Middle Shabelle region (south), in opposition to the extension of Farmaajo term.

This comes at a time when former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud said that soldiers attacked his residence, pointing the finger of blame at President Farmaajo, as he was responsible.
