GAZA, July 05 (YPA) – The Gaza Municipality warned, on Saturday, of the worsening water crisis in the eastern neighborhoods of the city, as the Israeli occupation forces continue to prevent maintenance teams from reaching damaged water wells, amid an atmosphere of displacement and high temperatures.
In a press statement, a spokesperson for the Gaza Municipality said that the occupation has been preventing municipal crews for days from reaching the eastern areas to carry out necessary maintenance work on a number of water wells that have stopped working, warning that thousands of families in those areas have been completely deprived of water for nearly a week.
“This water blockade comes at an extremely difficult time, with the continued waves of displacement and high temperatures, which portends a severe thirst crisis that threatens the lives of residents,” the spokesperson added.
He pointed out that the occupation forces deliberately targeted a water desalination plant in Gaza in recent days, in a move he described as an additional suffocation of civilians in one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the Strip.
The Gaza Municipality called on international and humanitarian institutions to urgently intervene to pressure the occupation to allow the repair of damaged wells and secure a minimum water supply for the besieged population.
