MARIB, Feb. 17 (YPA) – Military forces On Wednesday stormed the headquarters of the Central Bank of Marib and seized large sums of money in the first response to the decision to close the local authority’s account, which is affiliated with Islah party.
This was reported by Yemen News Portal, based on local sources.
Gunmen carrying dozens of military pickups and armored vehicles besieged the bank’s headquarters in the city center before storming it and looting money, according to the sources said.
It comes, just a day after Moeen Abdul Malik, head of Hadi government directed to close the account of the Islah authority in the province.
It was replaced by a classified budget in response to the defense minister’s directive to the ministry’s finance department not to deal with the directives of Chief of Staff Saghair Bin Aziz.
Pro-Islah activists have attacked Moeen Abdul Malik, accusing him of masterminding an economic war, saying his budget is not enough to cover one-day expenses.
Over the past years of the war in Yemen, Marib’s wealth and revenues have remained at the disposal of the governor of Islah, Sultan al-Arada, who refused to even link the account of Marib with Aden bank.
