HADRAMOUT, Aug. 11 (YPA) – UAE-backed factions carried out a widespread arrest campaign targeting on Monday a number of women and activists in the city of Mukalla city of Hadramout province, eastern Yemen.
Human rights and local sources affirmed that the coalition-affiliated Hadramout governor, Mabkhout bin Madi, ordered the factions to arrest women and youth who participated in the last Saturday’s protests in Fuwa area, calling for reducing electricity and water price.
The sources added that armed elements took a number of women, along with a number of local youth men, to unknown locations after storming their homes, in an unprecedented violation of the privacy of Mukalla’s residents.
The kidnapping of women and young men in Fuwa sparked public outrage and anger among Hadramout tribesmen, who considered it a “black shame” against all Hadramout women.
