Food prices continue to rise in Taiz amid popular discontent

TAIZ, Jan. 26 (YPA) – Food prices continued to rise in the Islah Party-controlled areas in Taiz province, local sources reported on Tuesday.

“The added increase in food prices has reached above reasonable levels during the past few days,” the sources said.

The sources pointed out that the rapid collapse of the value of the Yemeni riyal against foreign currencies was accompanied by an insane increase in the value of foodstuffs in the shops.

The price of an egg, for example, reached 130 riyals and 150 riyals, and the value of a bottle of water reached 200 riyals and 250 riyals, in all shops and stores in Taiz.

The sources indicated to the growing discontent among citizens towards the “Hadi’s government” due to its silence and failure to put in place real solutions on the ground to save the economy from collapse.
