Turkey launches new military operation in northern Iraq

SANAA, June 17 (YPA) – The Turkish Defense Ministry announced at dawn on Wednesday the launch of a new military operation in northern Iraq.
“The operation (the claw-tiger) has started, and the commandos are now in the Heftanen district,” Turkish Defense Ministry said in a statement on its Twitter account.

According to the Turkish Anatolia Agency, the “claw-tiger” operation comes in the “Haftanin” region in northern Iraq, against the PKK elements.

The Turkish Defense released a video clip of the “Claw-Tiger” operation, which showed heavy artillery shelling by Turkish forces as well as the use of air force fighters and unmanned aircraft.

The Turkish defense announced late last night on Sunday the launch of “Claw – Eagle” operation against the PKK in northern Iraq.

The Iraqi Council of Representatives condemned the penetration of Turkish aircraft by Iraqi sovereignty and the implementation of a military operation on its soil.

Iraqi media reported that the Turkish fighters targeted several raids around camps for the displaced, which are filled with civilians, women and children.
