Infighting between coalition rival militias leaves several dead in Abyan

ABYAN, Aug. 20 (YPA) – Fierce clashes broke out on Tuesday morning between special security forces belonging to the Coalition-backed government and the UAE-backed militias” security belt forces” in Zinjibar city of Abyan province, southern Yemen, local sources told Yemen Press Agency.

According to the sources, the clashes left several people dead and wounded on both sides.

The clashes erupted after UAE-backed security forces surrounded the special forces camp and demanded to hand over the camp.

Medical sources at al-Razi hospital in Abyan told Aden al-Ghad newspaper that the hospital has received dead and wounded from both sides.

An eyewitness told “Aden al-Qad newspaper” that military pickups were burned in the clashes, which are still going on sporadically. Security forces from Aden were brought in in the clashes.
