Anti-smuggling seizes more than 87 million riyals of banned currency

SANAA, Aug. 16 (YPA) – The Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Emergency Forces Branch in Taiz governorate, thwarted attempts to bring in sums of money from prohibited categories from the occupied governorate of Aden.

A security source explained that the unit seized three separate smuggling attempts, amounting to 41 million and 669 thousand riyals of illegal currency printed by the aggression with the aim of harming the national economy and increasing the suffering of citizens.

The source indicated that the sums were in the possession of people coming from occupied Aden and heading to Taiz governorate.

The source pointed out that among the seized funds, 36 million and 591 thousand riyals, in the category of forged thousand riyals, coded “D”, in addition to five million and 78 thousand riyals of the new illegal categories.

The source indicated that the seized items, along with the suspects, were referred to the competent authorities.

The Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Rescue Forces branch in Al-Bayda Governorate also seized illegal sums of money that were prohibited from trading during the period from August 10-14, 2021 AD.

Where the anti-smuggling unit seized in 8 separate operations the amount of 478 thousand and 700 riyals of the illegal currency printed by the aggression to harm the national economy, and also seized in 20 separate operations one million and 361 thousand riyals encoded with the letter “D” prohibited from circulation.

The Anti-Smuggling Unit indicated that 26 million and 156 thousand riyals of the national currency were seized during 6 separate operations.

In the Marib Governorate, the Anti-Smuggling Unit of the Rescue Forces branch in the governorate, in separate operations, seized one million and 519 thousand riyals of illegal currency.

The Anti-Smuggling Unit stated that 19 million and 500 thousand riyals of the national currency were seized.
The seized amounts were referred to the competent authorities.
