Doctor killed under torture in STC’s prison in Lahj

LAHJ, June 29 (YPA) – A doctor was tortured to death three days after his detention in a prison run by the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Lahj province, southern Yemen.

A human rights source reported on Sunday that Dr. Abdul-Hafedh al-Baihani, from the Yahar area of ​​the Yafa’ district, died under mysterious circumstances inside the prison after being transferred from the Yahar police station.

The source explained that STC forces in “the Fifth Brigade” detained the doctor in connection with an ongoing investigation and to pressure the arrest of his nephew, who was wanted in a criminal case.

The doctor’s body was taken out of prison bearing signs of beating and torture, while the factions claim that he committed suicide.

Cases of assassinations and torture are on the rise inside STC prisons in Lahj, Aden, and other provinces under the Saudi-led coalition’s control, amid demands to reveal the fate of those forcibly disappeared in these prisons.
