SANAA, Sept. 19 (YPA) – Save the children the British-based organization on Wednesday said that an entire generation of children is at risk of death and 1 extra million children are at risk of starvation across Yemen.
According to its report, the attack on Hodeidah will increase the number of children threatened with famine in Yemen to 2.5 million children.
Any disruption to supplies coming through the Red Sea port of Hodeida could cause starvation on an unprecedented scale”, the report added.
“Millions of children do not know when or if their next meal will come,” Helle Thorning-Schmidt, Chief executive Director of Save the children organization said.
In one hospital I visited in north Yemen, the babies were too weak to cry, their bodies exhausted by hunger, she added.
She warned that “this war threatens to kill an entire generation of Yemeni children who face multiple threats from bombs to hunger for preventable diseases such as cholera.”
The resumption of the coalition forces ‘ attack on the strategic port of Hodeidah has raised fears of a worsening the humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen.
