Iran summons British ambassador in protest against London’s accusations

TEHRAN, Oct. 01 (YPA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned British Ambassador to Tehran, Hugo Shorter, on Thursday following accusations made by the British Prime Minister against the Islamic Republic.

Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, Majid Takht-Ravanchi, said he informed the ambassador of Tehran’s strong protest against the British government’s continued destructive and subversive approach towards Iran, according to the IRNA News Agency.

He pointed to London’s international responsibility for placing its military bases and capabilities at the disposal of the American authorities to pave the way for and carry out the American-Zionist aggression against Iran, stressing that the recent propaganda campaign and the raising of baseless accusations under the pretext of an alleged sabotage plot at Fairford Air Base cannot cover up Britain’s complicity in the aggression.

The Iranian official rejected what he described as empty claims regarding the sabotage plot at Fairford, stressing the need for London to provide an official explanation and correct its course, while the British ambassador confirmed that he would convey the protest to his government.
