Bab al-Mandab witnesses passage of 801 commercial vessels during 20 days
SANAA, Sept. 23 (YPA) – A total of 408 commercial vessels transited the Bab al-Mandab Strait in the Red Sea between September 11 and 21, according to maritime navigation statistics issued by the Ministry of Transport and Public Works in the Sanaa-based government.
The statement noted that transit through the Bab al-Mandab Strait proceeded smoothly and safely for all international commercial ships, with the exception of Saudi vessels.
According to the statement, 196 ships transited Bab al-Mandab northbound and 212 southbound over the past ten days. It added that the daily transit rate through the strait exceeds 40 commercial ships, container vessels, and other cargo carriers.
The report indicated an increase in the number of vessels passing through the strait following the liberation of the western coast districts on September 10, compared to the preceding ten-day period (September 1–10), during which 393 ships transited the strait—199 northbound and 194 southbound.
The Ministry of Transport reaffirmed that international navigation and trade through the vital Bab al-Mandab waterway are operating normally and safely, refuting allegations and rumors suggesting that maritime traffic had halted or that the strategic passage is unsafe for global shipping.
