Speaker of Yemeni Parliament sends messages to his counterparts in Pakistan, Turkey

SANAA, Sept. 23 (YPA) – Yahya Ali Al-Ra’i, Speaker of the Parliament in Sanaa, sent official letters on Wednesday to Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, and Prof. Numan Kurtulmuş, Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, outlining field and political developments in Yemen and the region.

The letters highlighted the consequences of the ongoing military campaign and blockade imposed for over 12 years by the Saudi regime. The correspondence pointed to the targeting of civilian infrastructure and facilities, including the recent strikes on Sanaa International Airport and the Central Prison facility in Jawf, alongside the escalation of the economic crisis, targeting of the national currency, and depletion of resources preventing the payment of public sector salaries.

According to official statistics cited from the Ministry of Health and Environment regarding casualties and the humanitarian situation:

Direct Casualties: Over 60,000 civilian casualties, including approximately 24,000 killed and 36,000 injured.

Women and Children: 8,262 children affected (3,243 killed and 5,019 injured), and 6,686 women affected (3,250 killed and 3,436 injured).

Mortality and Displacement: Over 1.4 million civilian deaths linked to disease outbreaks, malnutrition, and medical shortages resulting from the blockade, in addition to the displacement of over 5 million people.

Al-Ra’i stated that the Saudi regime has reneged on its declared commitments to de-escalation and the implementation of the agreed-upon “Roadmap,” opting instead for military escalation. He noted that Sanaa has responded by implementing a counter-blockade policy (“blockade-for-blockade”) until all military operations cease completely.

Concluding the messages, the Speaker reiterated Sanaa’s commitment to peace and diplomatic resolution, calling on Islamabad and Ankara to leverage their diplomatic weight to encourage the Saudi regime to end military actions and the blockade, maintain neutrality, and refrain from supporting hostile policies against Yemen.
