France calls on EU to cut energy prices and postpone methane law

PARIS, Sept. 22 (YPA) – The French presidency has urged the European Union to take immediate action to cut energy prices.

In a letter to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, President Emmanuel Macron called for measures to control prices, after European gas jumped from €27 to €80 per megawatt-hour this year due to the Middle East crisis and oil exceeding $100.

Paris also demanded a postponement of a law restricting oil and gas imports and linked to methane emissions, a temporary relaxation of rules on refiners to increase jet fuel and diesel production up to 20%, allowing more biofuels and expanding joint purchases of gas-to-liquids products.
