Supreme Political Council’s member Bin Habtoor: “Our sovereignty over western coast is internal matter, int’l navigation is safe”
SANAA, Sept. 10 (YPA) – Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Habtoor, a member of Sanaa’s Supreme Political Council, emphasized that Yemen’s exercise of sovereignty over its territory, coasts, and territorial waters on the western coast is an entirely domestic matter that poses no threat to international navigation.
He stressed that maritime safety serves Yemeni, regional, and international interests.
In a statement to the Sanaa-based Yemeni News Agency (SABA), Bin Habtoor rejected external statements and positions that apply double standards regarding Yemeni sovereignty, affirming that it is an inherent right that no foreign party has the right to object to.
On the eve of the UN Security Council session convened to discuss Yemeni developments, he called on the Council to assume its responsibilities by ending the root causes of escalation—primarily the “Saudi aggression and blockade”—rather than serving as a platform to condemn Yemenis for exercising their legitimate right to defend their country.
The Supreme Political Council member concluded by warning against any new military escalation, reiterating that achieving security and stability depends on respecting Yemen’s sovereignty and independence, and ending the “aggression and blockade” to move toward a just and sustainable peace.
