Two US soldiers killed in Apache helicopter crash in Texas

WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 (YPA) – Two U.S. soldiers were killed on Wednesday when an AH-64 Apache military helicopter assigned to Fort Hood crashed in a field in Texas.

A Bell County official said the crash occurred in the county, about 100 kilometers north of Austin, the state capital.

Texas governor Greg Abbott said on in a post on X that an Apache helicopter crashed in Bell County during operations at Fort Hood, killing two members of the U.S. military.

Fort Hood confirmed in a statement that an AH-64 attack helicopter had crashed, killing two soldiers. It said the identities of the victims would be withheld until their families had been notified.

The statement also provided details about the helicopter’s activities at the time of the crash.

Images from the scene showed firefighters inspecting the charred wreckage amid a large area of scorched grass, with smoke rising from the crash site.

The crash came about two months after a U.S. Air Force B-52 bomber crashed in California, killing all eight people aboard.
