Sanaa Shura Council Speaker addresses Arab-African association on “Red Sea militarization”

SANAA, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Mohammed Hussein Al-Aidarous, Speaker of the Shura Council in Sanaa, has sent a letter to the Association of Senates, Shoora and Equivalent Councils in Africa and the Arab World (ASSECAA), affirming Yemen’s right to take necessary measures to protect its people, safeguard its sovereignty, and end the blockade, while rejecting the militarization of the Red Sea.

Al-Aidarous stated that the ongoing aggression and blockade on the country since 2015 remain the root cause of the crisis, attributing stalled peace talks to non-compliance with commitments and persistent Saudi economic restrictions. He further noted that Yemen’s position in the Red Sea is aimed at supporting the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and demanding an end to the siege, emphasizing that international commercial navigation is not targeted.

The Shura Council Speaker warned that US and British military intervention, along with the formation of foreign coalitions, has contributed to militarizing the Red Sea and transforming it into an arena of international conflict.

He called on Arab and African nations to support an end to the aggression, lift the blockade, reject regional militarization, and respect Yemen’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and territorial waters.
