Surging fish prices in Aden exacerbate living burdens for residents

ADEN, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Fish markets in Aden Governorate experienced a new wave of price hikes across various species on Monday, worsening public discontent as fish—once the most accessible and affordable staple in the coastal city—falls out of reach for a broad segment of families.

According to market transactions, prices per kilogram were recorded ranging between 8,000 YER and 24,000 YER depending on the type of fish.

Local residents attributed the sharp increases to ongoing economic deterioration and rising living costs.

They called on relevant authorities, led by the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Fisheries and regulatory bodies, to intensify market oversight, investigate the root causes of recurring price surges, and implement firm measures to curb speculation and price manipulation to protect consumers.
