Iran reiterates rejection of military alliances against Yemen

TEHRAN, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei has reaffirmed that Tehran’s opposition to relying on the Saudi-led military alliance to resolve the Yemeni crises.

In a statement, he argued that any new naval coalition would fail where previous ones have already fallen short, in an apparent reference to the Saudi-announced maritime alliance against Yemen.

According to the Iranian news agency Fars, Baghaei said during his weekly press briefing on Monday, in response to a question about Pakistan’s reported participation in the coalition, that such alliances are nothing new, noting that a similar coalition was formed around a decade ago but failed to achieve its objectives.

He stressed that the Yemen issue cannot be resolved through military means or military alignments, emphasizing that the priority should instead be building alliances for peace rather than coalitions that escalate tensions and harm Islamic countries.

Baghaei also reaffirmed Iran’s readiness to support any political initiative that advances a negotiated settlement and helps bring the Yemen conflict to an end.

His remarks underscored Tehran’s continued advocacy for a political resolution, amid renewed discussions of military arrangements in the Red Sea, arguing that resolving the Yemen file requires diplomacy rather than further military escalation.
