Pezeshkian: “Efforts must be made to bind the enemy to the signed MOU”

TEHRAN, Aug. 03 (YPA) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed with the United States represents the product of consensus and wisdom among Parliament members, noting a unified agreement regarding the text, which he described as the centerpiece of Iran’s foreign relations in the coming phase.

“We must strive to compel the enemy to abide by what it signed; this memorandum will enhance the security of the country, the region, and our allies,” Pezeshkian posted on X on Sunday.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said on Monday that an agreement regarding the Strait of Hormuz has been reached, adding that he expects to achieve a deal regarding the Iranian nuclear program as well.

Trump explained that the United States is holding discussions with Iran concerning the negotiation mechanism, confirming that a new round will begin Monday evening. He noted that US forces were prepared to carry out a massive assault, which would have continued had it been executed, describing it as potentially the largest operation since World War II. He added that Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, and Iran requested that he cancel the strike.

Between July 8 and July 23, the US military launched several attacks on Iran. US Central Command (CENTCOM) claimed the strikes were in response to Iranian targeting of commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, the Iranian military launched strikes on US bases across several countries in the region. Tehran also accused Washington of violating the ceasefire memorandum signed between the two countries last June.
