Islah Party factions drone strike target strategic heights in northern Lahj to expand control

LAHJ, July 29 (YPA) – A drone belonging to Islah Party factions launched an airstrike targeting a military site adjacent to the historic Al-Qahira Citadel in Lahj Governorate in southern Yemen.

The action comes as part of a field movement aimed at stripping anti-Islah forces of their positions overlooking the districts of Tur Al-Baha, Al-Madaribah, and Ras Al-Arah.

Pro-Saudi media platforms reported that the strike targeted a location near the “Omar Al-Tayyar” Mosque in the vicinity of the citadel, resulting in livestock casualties and causing panic among residents, with no human casualties recorded.

The reports clarified that the strikes followed dense aerial reconnaissance in the area, which was engaged by the defenses of the “4th Brigade” at the “Al-Jahili” site under the assumption that the aircraft belonged to Sanaa forces.

Sources confirmed that the operation is part of a plan to reshape the military map and consolidate control over southern positions in Lahj. This serves as an extension of the Islah party leadership’s efforts to control Al-Hujariyyah positions since the 2019 assassination of Adnan Al-Hammadi, commander of the “35th Armored Brigade,” as well as its previous attempts since 2020 to establish a Qatari-backed Turkish military base on the Al-Maqatirah heights overlooking coastal areas near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
