Activists demonstrate at New Jersey port against arrival of Israeli ship

NEW JERSEY, July 28 (YPA) – Activists and supporters of the Palestinian cause demonstrated outside the Port of Elizabeth in the U.S. state of New Jersey to protest the arrival of the ZIM Virginia, a vessel operated by the Israeli shipping company ZIM.

Protest organizers said the company’s ships are used to transport military cargo and equipment to “Israel.”

The demonstration was organized by Port Workers & Communities for Palestine, which called on dockworkers and truck drivers to refuse to handle the vessel in an effort to pressure authorities to halt military shipments bound for “Israel.”

Organizers said the protest was in response to calls by Palestinian and international labor unions for an arms embargo on Israel and an end to any involvement in transporting military equipment to the country.

The protest is part of an international campaign led by activists and port workers seeking to stop the transfer of weapons to “Israel.”

Similar actions have taken place at several ports around the world, including cases where dockworkers refused to load or unload ships linked to military shipments destined for “Israel.”
