Iran Parliament official: Strait of Hormuz enters ‘new phase’ with IRGC oversight

TEHRAN, June 28 (YPA) – The Strait of Hormuz has entered a new operational phase and will not return to its previous status, according to Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee.

Rezaei affirmed the committee’s full support for recent measures taken by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in response to the United States, characterizing the actions as an assertion of Iranian sovereignty over the strategic waterway.

The statement follows a previous announcement by the IRGC claiming operational control over the Strait of Hormuz, citing provisions of a memorandum of understanding with the United States. Under the stated measures, the IRGC stipulated that the passage of maritime vessels through the strait now requires prior coordination with its forces.
