UN envoy condemns assassination of journalist Mohammed Ayda in Mukalla

SANAA, June 25 (YPA) – The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, condemned the assassination of journalist Mohammed Ayda in Mukalla city of Hadramout Governorate, expressing his condolences to his family, colleagues, and all those working in the Yemeni media.
 
In a statement, Grundberg said he is following the investigation that has been opened into the crime, stressing the need to protect journalists and enable them to carry out their work without fear or threat.
 
He called for the protection of public figures, including media professionals, civil society organizations, and community activists.
 
The UN envoy’s statements come amid local and human rights demands for a transparent and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances of the assassination and for those responsible to be held accountable.
