UN envoy sets next steps on Yemen prisoners, economy after London visit

LONDON, Juen 24 (YPA) – The UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Yemen, Hans Grundberg, concluded a visit to London on Wednesday.

During the visit, he held talks with Minister for the Middle East Hamish Falconer, National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, senior UK officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and regional experts to discuss the recent developments in Yemen and the broader region.

Grundberg also discussed efforts to advance a comprehensive political process led by Yemenis and supported by the international community under UN auspices, which the parties underscored as the only viable path toward sustainable stability.

He briefed UK officials on ongoing UN efforts, including next steps in implementing the UN-mediated agreement to release more than 1,600 detainees, recent meetings under the military coordination committee aimed at supporting de-escalation, and continued work to address key economic challenges.

He expressed appreciation for the United Kingdom’s continued support for UN-led mediation efforts and its commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in Yemen that reflects the aspirations of its people.
