Cairo: mediators prepare to present revised Gaza proposal

CAIRO, June 01 (YPA) –Cairo is engaged in intensive diplomatic contacts with mediators and guarantors of the Gaza ceasefire agreement to pave the way for the resumption of stalled negotiations that have been on hold for more than two weeks, amid growing fears that the truce could collapse and trigger a return to large-scale Israeli military operations, media outlets reported on Monday, citing informed sources.

According to Egypt’s Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper, mediators from Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar are preparing to present a revised proposal during the next round of talks.

Hamas has reportedly received intensive communications from Egyptian officials in recent hours aimed at de-escalating tensions and creating conditions for negotiations to resume in the coming days.

The sources said the expected meeting will include the mediators alongside Nikolay Mladenov, identified as the international envoy to the “Peace Council” in the Gaza Strip.

Discussions are expected to focus on arrangements for the governance of the Gaza Strip, including the transfer of security responsibilities to a new administrative committee, as well as broader political and security issues related to the future of the ceasefire agreement. The talks are also expected to address the deployment of the committee to formally assume its duties in the enclave.

The sources added that Hamas had received assurances that some of its security personnel in Gaza would be integrated into future security arrangements. They also said the movement’s leadership structure would remain unchanged, with Khalil al-Hayya continuing to serve as its leader in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Palestinian resistance factions issued a statement condemning the “ongoing Israeli crimes and violations” in Gaza.

The factions accused “Israel” of attempting to prolong the first phase of the ceasefire agreement to avoid implementing its political and military commitments, while continuing policies of blockade, starvation, targeted killings, and attacks on Palestinian police personnel.
