BEIRU, May 27 (YPA) – The General Directorate of Civil Defense in Lebanon declared on Wednesday that its search and rescue teams successfully evacuated 29 civilians trapped inside buildings damaged by Israeli occupation’s airstrikes in the towns of Al-Duwair and Nabatieh in southern Lebanon.
In a statement carried by Lebanon’s National News Agency, the directorate said that despite the intensity of the raids and the extensive destruction they caused, rescue teams managed to reach and evacuate civilians trapped beneath or inside damaged structures in both areas.
According to the statement, operations in Al-Duwair led to the rescue of two children and 12 other civilians, while additional evacuation efforts were carried out in Nabatieh, where emergency crews worked rapidly to secure the safety of residents and transfer them to safer locations.
The statement confirmed that civil defense teams continue to conduct field search and emergency response operations in the targeted areas.
Since March 2, Israeli forces have intensified military operations across Lebanon, targeting towns, villages, cities, and civilian infrastructure, resulting in thousands of casualties and the displacement of nearly 1.5 million Lebanese residents.
Although a temporary ceasefire agreement came into effect in mid-April, Lebanese authorities say Israeli forces continue to carry out daily violations of the truce.
