SHABWA, Amy 06 (YPA) – Yemen’s Shabwa province saw simultaneous security incidents on Wednesday, including an armed attack on a military post west of Ataq city and violent tribal clashes in Habban district, amid a worsening security situation in the oil-rich province.
Local sources said unidentified gunmen launched a surprise assault on the “Al-Wat’a” site, reportedly linked to forces loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council, using light and medium weapons. The exchange of fire lasted for about an hour, with no immediate confirmation of casualties.
Separately, fierce tribal fighting erupted in the “Khabar Laqmoush” area between two families from the Al-Adyo tribe, involving the use of medium and heavy weapons and causing panic among residents, particularly women and children.
Sources added that tribal mediators from neighboring areas stepped in to contain the escalation and halt the violence, as tensions and security breakdowns continue to grip the province.
