Hamas official says Gaza talks prolonged amid continued ceasefire violations, Israeli escalation

GAZA, May 06 (YPA) – Leader of Hamas movement, Ghazi Hamad, said that negotiations over a Gaza ceasefire are complex and prolonged due to Israeli occupation’s intransigence and continued escalation on the ground.

Hamad stated that Israel is pursuing what he called a policy of killing and escalation, adding that it is disregarding international and mediating efforts aimed at maintaining calm in the Gaza Strip.

He accused Israeli forces of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement and undermining chances of reaching a final settlement, noting that breaches have continued daily since the truce came into effect.

The Hamas official reiterated the movement’s commitment to continuing negotiations, saying there is ongoing daily contact with mediators in an effort to advance to the next phase of talks, while stressing the importance of implementing the terms of the initial agreement.

On the ground, he said ceasefire violations continue through the occupation shelling, gunfire, and the demolition of civilian homes in Gaza.

According to available figures cited in this context, hundreds of casualties and injuries have been reported since the ceasefire began, highlighting ongoing tensions and the fragility of the truce.
